To further the MPO region's transportation planning goals and objectives, the MPO conducts roadway planning studies. The need for such studies is usually identified in the Metropolitan Transportation Plan and they are ultimately programmed in its Annual Transportation Planning Work Program knowing as Unified Planning Work Program (UPWP).   In order to continually enhance and implement the MTP, the MPO engages in a variety of planning efforts dealing with issues in safety analysis and improvements, freight, multimodal transportation such as bicycle and pedestrian accommodation, highways, etc..
