Safe Communities

The Richland County Safe Communities Coalition is a traffic safety grant program funded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), passed through the Ohio Traffic Safety Office (OTSO) of the Ohio Department of Public Safety.

It was created in Richland County in 2001 to establish a partnership of individuals from law enforcement, local governments, schools, businesses, health care agencies, and community organizations to collaborate on creating awareness and prevention of death and injuries caused by traffic crashes.

The goal of the Safe Communities program is to reduce the number of traffic related injuries and fatalities in Richland County by identifying problem areas and correcting them through a combination of enforcement, education and engineering and working together with the Richland County community to promote traffic safety blitzes, fatal crash reviews, statistical analysis simulators, and educational material distribution.
