Land Use

The Richland County Regional Planning Commission is responsible for the development and administration of Richland County’s subdivision regulations. The staff also provides assistance to municipalities and townships concerning zoning and subdivision matters. The RCRPC and the Zoning, Subdivision, and Land Use Committee review subdivision plans to determine compliance with regulations and other adopted plans, coordinate cross-agency review, and prepare maps and reports for planning commission meetings.

The Commission sometimes undertakes special projects such as developing of storm water management and erosion control regulations for Richland County, as well as the preparation of a Farmland Preservation Plan.

In the unincorporated areas of the county, the Richland County Building Codes Department administers the County Flood Program.

As part of our efforts to educate and provide services to the communities in Richland County, the Richland County Regional Planning Commission offers Planning and Zoning 101 workshops for local elected officials, commission members, zoning board members, zoning inspectors and citizen groups.
